Professional Identity
When thinking of my professional identity, the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that I am an ambitious person. When I set a goal for myself that I think is realistic I will do everything within my power to reach this goal. I am an organized worker, people can trust me to come prepared. This entails that I am meeting deadlines, attending meetings and can make a good planning. This skill set also allows me to be a good group leader. As the leader of a group I listen to the whole group, try to make everyone feel and perform well and keep an overview of the tasks that need to be done.
The designs that I’m going to make should be sustainable. I’m interested in making things that will last a long time, so not like Christmas lights that only last two years but they should last at least twenty. I value designs that are of good quality, that is the kind of sustainability I am interested in.
I noticed that for example when I went to the Dutch design week, Cars and clothing really fascinate me. These two things don’t even look like each other a bit but even when I’m using things daily, they keep fascinating me. So, while in the beginning when I started this study I had no idea which fields interested me now I’m beginning to have a pretty good idea of what kind of projects I want to do.
What differentiates me from other designers is the fact that I’m really interested in the economical and business parts of design. This means that when I am looking at a new design, one of the first things I think about is if it is realistic in the economical aspect, and how should the product be put out there on the market. And for example, if you have to design something for the government you have to keep in mind different things than when you design for a company.
